Nourishing Postpartum Services
How Ashlee works with you as a Postpartum Doula and AyuDoula:
After your little one has been born and you have settled in a bit, I arrive at your home to cook you nourishing meals, snacks, and beverages. I typically do a bit of tidying up in your home, cleaning up the kitchen, helping with laundry, sweeping the floors, or other light household chores to keep your household running smoothly.
I also set up a massage table in a warm room to give you a deeply relaxing massage. The massage allows your body and nervous system to release the muscle tension and stress hormones from your labor and birth from your cells and nervous system. I utilize essential oils as appropriate, herbal massage oils, and the additional Ayurvedic body therapy modalities as needed to suit your state of being for each treatment. Following your massage and nap (hopefully you can nap on the table), you will step into an herbal bath to soak your body, soothe your mind, and heal your tissues. I recommend following your bath with a warm snack and beverage and a nice belly wrap to support your womb and your back.
Each day I check in with you regarding your emotions, digestion, elimination, breastfeeding, bleeding, and your infant's well being to support you and your newborn as you both heal from delivery.
If you are interested in herbal support postpartum, I can provide you with the information and links to order appropriate herbal formulations to support your postpartum healing and digestive health. Sometimes I may offer suggestions for additional herbs, flower essences, homeopathic medicines, or lifestyle practices if you are experiencing additional health concerns.
Once your infant's umbilical cord has fallen off I teach you and your partner a simple infant massage and self massage sequence using warm oil. Infant massage is a powerful way to help your little one to acclimate to life outside the womb, to foster motor development, to build the immune system, and provides your partner with powerful bonding time with your baby.
Prior to your birth I like to meet with you and your support people or person to introduce you to the Ayurvedic approach to postpartum care and to answer any questions or concerns you may have for your postpartum.
Traditionally the postpartum window of healing is 42 days, if you receive nourishment and support during your postpartum 42 days the impact of that support will affect you for the coming 42 years. Likewise if you are depleted and continue to be depleted, that will also impact your health and well being later in life. Each birth is a transformative experience, and each time you birth your body, mind, and spirit need the loving care and support of your family and community. I would be honored to be a part of your healing postpartum window.
