A Lifelong Passion for Birth

As a child, I spent hours at my mother’s veterinary clinic, mesmerized by the miracle of life—watching puppies, kittens, and calves take their first breaths. Those moments instilled in me a deep reverence for the process of birth and the mothers who bring life into the world. While that fascination never left me, after high school I chose to pursue my other passion—food—and earned a B.S. in Clinical Nutrition at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. After graduation, however, I felt something was missing. I craved a deeper, more holistic approach to health—one that nurtured not just the body but the spirit.

I was given the opportunity to spend six months traveling in Southeast Asia, where I was introduced to Ayurvedic medicine—a discovery that changed my life. I returned home to study at the California College of Ayurveda in Nevada City, where I became a Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist, Pancha Karma Specialist, and Certified Massage Therapist. Ayurveda lit up my soul and provided the holistic, food, lifestyle, herbalism, body movement, and spiritual pieces of health and wellbeing I longed for.

It was during my training that I discovered Ayurvedic postpartum care, a practice that felt like a missing piece in modern maternal health. Under the mentorship of the late Ysha Oaks, I trained as an AyuDoula, learning the profound impact of nourishment, rest, and support in the postpartum period. When Ysha passed in 2014, I joined a group of her students in carrying forward her legacy at the Center for Sacred Window Studies as faculty, ensuring that the wisdom of Ayurvedic postpartum care continues to reach new families.

After taking time in 2018 to birth and raise my son Rio (fka Cedar), I’m back with renewed passion and an even deeper understanding of the postpartum journey.

Over the years, I have attended 50+ births, worked in Ayurvedic herbalism and body therapies, and deepened my understanding of traditional postpartum practices worldwide.

I also teach Ayurvedic postpartum cooking through the Center for Sacred Window Studies, helping others bring these time-honored traditions into their communities.

I believe that nourishing new families is sacred, transformative, and revolutionary. The journey into parenthood is profound, and every birthing person deserves to be cared for, honored, and deeply supported. It is my mission to provide that care—through healing foods, restorative bodywork, and unwavering guidance—so that parents can step into this new chapter feeling nourished, empowered, and whole.
